MADRID - Art & Culture

September 9-11

Immerse in the art and culture of Madrid for two days and nights before journeying to Avila. We'll gather at the modern Hotel Mercure Madrid Centro located in the heart of the art district and easy walking distance to the world famous Museo del Prado as well as the Thyssen and Reina Sofia museums. Stroll through beautiful Retiro Park and enjoy a group outing of flamenco and dinner Saturday night.

AVILA ~ Interior Castle Retreat & St Teresa Sites
September 11-18
Traveling by bus to the UNESCO heritage site of Avila, a medieval walled city, we'll make our home for the next seven nights at The Hotel Palacio Valderrabanos, adjacent to the Gothic cathedral in the main square. Here we'll move inward to explore the seven dwellings of our soul's interior castle. Mirabai Starr, translator of Teresa's mystical writings, will facilitate teachings, meditations, discussions and journaling exercises in two-hour daily sessions. Follow the footsteps of Teresa on daily guided walks to significant places that hold the energies of Teresa's vows, spiritual visions, challenges and realized dreams. Integrate the day in evening circles of sharing, meditation and reflection.
SEGOVIA ~ All Day Excursion
Wednesday, September 14
Just an hour's drive from Avila, we'll spend the day in this charming town flanked by the Alcazar (that inspired Disney's castle) and a towering Roman Aquaduct. Among our explorations are St. John of the Cross' monastery and burial place and an ancient church (believed to be built by Knights Templar). Wander in and wonder on the Jewish Quarter, St. Francis' church, a Moorish home, a stunning cathedral...

Exploring the Interior Castle of Your Soul

Avila ~ Madrid ~ Segovia ~ Alba de Tormes    September 9-18, 2016

ALBA DE TORMES ~ Excursion
Friday, September 16
About an hour's drive from Avila, we'll spend much of the day in this riverside town where Teresa's body was laid to rest -- well, mostly. The relics of saints are quite revered and here you will see her heart and arm on display, an elaborate shrine with her remains and a well-appointed museum of her life and times.
